5 Tips For A Stress Free House Move

Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful times in our lives and it’s no surprise, what with the endless packing, costs and logistics of moving house, on top of our every day lives, it’s no wonder it stresses us out so much! I have a few tried and tested tips for a stress free house move, well, as stress free as moving your entire life from one place to another can get!

Stop Procrastinating

We have all been there haven’t we? A deadline is looming yet we keep putting it off until the night before when sheer panic sets in. A house move is not the time to procrastinate, start packing as soon as you know you are moving. Little and often is key to stop it feeling like a mammoth task, ditch anything that doesn’t ‘spark joy’ and get everyone involved, many hands make light work. Don’t forget to leave an empty box for any things that can’t be packed immediately.

Label,label,label

Sounds simple doesn’t it, but labeling boxes often gets overlooked, especially if you have a lot of boxes. Labeling your boxes with the contents and what room they belong in will save you so much time when it comes to transferring your belongings to the new house.

Get a removal company to do the hard work

I know you can save money by doing the removals yourself but if you want a stress free house move I would really recommend getting help. Having a company come and load, transport and offload will help things run smoothly. There are lots of removal companies to choose from and compare prices online.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Honestly, people will help as long as you ask, whether that’s looking after the kids on moving day, helping get your new house live-able, or even helping with the packing. Friends and family will be more than willing to lend a hand wherever it is needed.

Put the kettle on!

Make sure you have a box ready to be moved straight into your new house containing the essentials. So, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits (they are essential right?) toilet roll, snacks, you get the jist. Basically anything that will help those first few hours in your new house run as smoothly as possible, and if you have kids, don’t forget to load their tablets up with games/shows and pack a few of their favorite toys so they will be occupied whilst you start to unpack. Oh, and don’t forget the takeaway menu, it’s the law to get a takeaway on moving day!

If you are planning on moving house, I hope everything runs smoothly for you.
