The Childhood Tag
I love reading and writing Q&A style posts. It’s a great way to get to know a little bit more about the face behind the blog. Thanks so much to the lovely Hayley from winging it with two boys for tagging me to take part in The childhood tag, which was created by The Mulberry Bush. They sell a wide range of beautiful traditional toys so make sure you check them out.
The Childhood Tag
1. What were you not expecting/not prepared for before becoming a parent?
The lack of sleep, I mean I expected to be tired just not THIS tired. Tiredness before you have a baby is not a patch on the sleep deprivation you actually experience when you do have one.
2. What is your main piece of advice for new parents?
Trust your instincts and do what you feel is right for you and your baby. I’ve actually just posted 7 pieces of advice for a first time mum which you can read here.
3. How do you encourage family time at home?
I work pretty hard to make sure we all get quality family time together. Jack is 13 and is either at school, out with friends or on his Xbox and Andy works all week and every Saturday so getting us all together isn’t easy! I try to organise at least 1 family day out a month even if it’s just a trip to the park. We also try to eat dinner together every night.
4. How do you balance being a blogger with parental duties?
Erm balance?? I do not have a work/life balance at the minute. If I have paid work I try to get that done as soon as I can, usually in nap times or when my toddlers occupied. I do most blog work at night though when the kids are in bed, often working until quite late.
5. What was your favourite toy growing up?
I loved Barbies, Polly Pockets and Puppy in My Pocket. My Little Pony was my ultimate favourite though, I love them that much and they hold such sentimental value to me I actually have them tattooed on my arm.
6. Have you kept any of your toys from your childhood?
Yes, the aforementioned My Little pony’s And their stable are up the loft plus a few other toys and one of my teddies I had as a baby is now in Ava and Poppy’s room.
7. What are your children’s favourite toys?
Jack is permanently attached to his xbox. Ava is very much like me and loves dolls and little figures, her favourites at the minute are her Paw Patrol figures. Pops has just started taking an interest in baby toys, she’s currently loving Ava’s old favourite Lamaze toy Captain Calamari.
8. Do you actively limit the amount of screen time your kids have?
For Jack, no, he is almost 14 and would probably think the world had ended if I tried! I do insist he stays off his phone if we are out though. As of yet Ava does not have access to a tablet and only watches the TV for about an hour a day. I don’t have anything against anyone that uses tablets/TV I just prefer that we spend most of our time outside or playing.
9. How do you reduce plastic waste in your home? – Reusable bottles, buying wooden toys, avoiding excessive food packaging, etc.?
We recycle a lot but we could definitely be better at reducing plastic waste. I love wooden toys and definitely want to invest in a few more.
10. What advice would you give to parents who want to start blogging?
Just go for it! Blogging helps me deal with some of the tougher aspects of parenthood such as the loneliness. Through blogging I have met a group of amazing ladies that keep me sane. If you don’t know where to start or are worried how much it costs take a look at my blogging for beginners post here.
I tag the following ladies to take part in The Childhood Tag too so make sure you check out theirs and Hayley’s posts.
