Growing a tiny human is hard bloody work! I think it’s so important to look after yourself during pregnancy, what is it they say? You can’t pour from an empty cup. By remembering to take care of yourself you will not only feel physically better, but mentally too. I have listed my favourite ways to look after your mind and body during pregnancy.
5 Ways To Look After Yourself During Pregnancy
1.) Start implementing a good skin care routine – Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just remember to take your make up off each night and use a good moisturiser. I have recently partnered up with Your Good Skin to take their #28dayschallenge. I have been loving their products and my skin feels smoother and looks a lot brighter, unfortunately I am not someone who gets naturally blessed with the pregnancy glow so I need a little helping hand.
2.) Take gentle exercise – I have been a lot more active in this pregnancy than I was with Ava and I honestly think it has helped keep the aches and pains at bay, not to mention the weight gain. I try to go walking as much as I can, even if it’s just down the road. I find it really helps me clear my head too, especially if I have been stressing a lot about silly things.
3.) Ask for help – You are not superwoman! If you feel like you need to rest, do it, don’t feel guilty about it. Remember to ask for help when you need it, I promise no one will mind. I am getting to the point where certain household chores are really hurting my back so I have had to ask Andy to take over for me.
4.) Show that baby bump some love – As baby grows your skin stretches to the point where you start wondering if it can stretch anymore, make sure you moisturise the skin on your belly to improve its suppleness. I’m afraid stretch marks are genetic so there’s no escaping them but you can help them be less visible. I have been massaging Palmers stretch mark cream into my bump morning and night as well as putting a couple of drops of the skin therapy oil into my bath, my skin is silky soft now and feels really nourished.
5.) Treat yourself! – Don’t forget the mental side of looking after yourself. A nice bubble bath, buying something new or simply taking yourself off to bed early will do wonders for your well-being. You may be someones mama now but you are still you, try not to forget about yourself!
