I will be the first to admit that the first trimester of pregnancy sucks ass, well for me it did anyway. Feeling sick 24 hours a days for weeks on end is not my idea of fun! Thankfully by week 14 my sickness had pretty much gone and I’m feeling much better now. Here’s everything that happened in those first 12 weeks.
The First Trimester
I was 2 days overdue when I took a clear blue digital pregnancy test, I had an inkling that I was pregnant but I think when you are desperate for a positive test each month you can sometimes start feeling symptoms that aren’t actually there, I had felt the same the month before so when I took the test I was fully expecting it to be negative, to say we were shocked to see positive is an understatement! Plus we had only decided to give trying a go the previous month, it took a year to conceive Ava so we were fully expecting the same again, although initially shocked we were so happy. Obviously symptoms will vary for each person and pregnancy
- Extreme tiredness
- Headaches/Neck ache
- Generally a hormonal emotional mess
Doctors appointments and Scans
I had an initial doctors appointment to take in a urine sample to confirm the pregnancy and I then had my booking in appointment with my midwife, we filled out all the relevant forms and discussed my birth options and scans/future appointments.
I had 2 scans in my 1st trimester, a private one at 7 weeks and the 12 week NHS one. I had a private early scan with Ava so it felt only right to have one with this baby, I haven’t had any problems in early pregnancy but it’s just nice to have that early reassurance that everything is progressing as it should be.
My only noticeable cravings have been fruit, especially satsumas, I can not get enough of them!
I have my 16 week midwife appointment booked and an early gender reveal scan booked for when I turn 16 weeks also, I’m so excited to find out if we are having another little girl or boy. I’ve also got a consultant appointment, my BMI is 0.5 above the cut off to give birth at a midwife led unit so I need to see a consultant to give me the go ahead to give birth there or talk about giving birth in hospital.
Let me know if any of you are pregnant too!
