Meal Plan Monday

I absolutely love seeing other people’s meal plans, I’m not the sort of person that dedicates certain nights to certain foods so I’m always looking for inspiration for something new to try, and basically I just like to nosy into other people’s lives. I thought I’d start a new little blog post every Monday sharing our meal plan for the week as I know you lot are just as nosy as me! Ava eats the same as us most nights so all the meals should be suitable but if not I’ll let you know. Ava does baby led weaning.

Sunblush tomato spaghetti –  Recipe Here This is super quick, easy, budget friendly and all cooked in one pan. It’s a new recipe for us but im really looking forward to it.

Sticky chicken, savoury rice and salad – This is a firm favourite slimming world meal, recipe Here It does contain honey, so it’s not suitable for babies under one.

Slow cooker sausage casserole – I don’t really have a recipe for this one, it’s more of a bung in whatever we have kind of meal. I will be adding in haricot beans, tinned tomatoes, carrots, onions, parsnips and some herbs, probably thyme.  Ava isn’t a massive fan of veg but she will happily eat it if it’s in a sauce, little madam.

Easy Spanish rice – I found this Recipe Here  on Daisieandpie blog This is another new one on us but I love how quick and easy it sounds, won’t be adding prawns though as we don’t like them.

Hairy Dieters cottage pie – Find the recipe Here I normally just do normal mash on top but the one in the recipe is lovely too.

Thai red chicken curry – I just use a jar of paste, I put a little less than it states in though to keep the heat down for Ava, She normally has some of the chicken and rice.Thai curry is probably one of her favourite meals.

Its Ava’s birthday! We are going out for the day so we will grab food whilst we are out.

Let me know your favourite go to meals, I love trying new things.

Super Easy Sunblush Tomato Spaghetti

I saw this recipe in a recent Tesco magazine, with a baby in tow spending ages in the kitchen cooking isn’t feasible so I love finding super quick recipes, especially ones that don’t cost too much either!

Serves 4, cost per serving 98p

  • 1 pack of mozzarella and slow roasted tomatoes
  •  350g Spaghetti
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 1 x 190g jar of reduced fat pesto (I used red)

  • Chop the mozzarella and set aside
  • Put the tomatoes and oil from the pack, onion, spaghetti, pesto and 1ltr of water into a pan and bring to the boil
  • Cook until the pasta is submerged, then for a further 11 minutes, stirring often.
  • Stir in the mozzarella, cook for 1 minute, serve

There’s just 2 of us and a one year old eating this so I will alter amounts accordingly, maybe even try to sneak a bit more veg in. I’m not sure I’m going to use the oil either seeing as ava will be eating it.

Top 5 must haves for new mamas

Being a new mum is hard, scrap that, being a mum in general is hard, but as a first time mum those first few weeks will take some adjusting to, carrying on your normal daily routine will become pretty much impossible for a while, so I’ve listed my top 5 products to help make those first weeks a little easier

Batiste Dry Shampoo

This is a lifesaver! You may not always have chance or the energy to wash your hair as often as you’d like, so dry shampoo is a must have. I’ve tried different brands but in my opinion Batiste seems to be the best.

Belvita Breakfast Bars

Or any cereal bar really, babies have some kind of sensor built in that alerts them when you want to get yourself something to eat (or do anything in general) they will then cry at the precise moment you go to open the fridge or sit down with a nice cuppa, add the fact that to start with your baby will be pretty much attached to you, you need food that can be grabbed and eaten one handed. I think I pretty much lived on cereal bars and anything that I could eat in seconds before I was summoned again

You are going to be spending a lot of your time imprisoned under a sleeping baby, you might as well make the most of it a binge watch some TV shows at the same time, especially seeing as you will be binge watching Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly in the not to distant future, FYI these are all on Netflix.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

No offence but I’m afraid you are going to look like crap for a while, sleepless nights are kind to no one. This beauty however will help you look a little more human and a little less ‘mombie’

And lastly pamper products

It’s really important to remember to take care of your self when you have a baby, your life now revolves around them and that can get a little overwhelming. So get yourself a nice Lush bath bomb, a face-mask and a cheeky little glass of something nice and just relax for a while, trust me, you will feel so much better.

If you are already a mama, what were your must haves?

Lush Valentines Day Haul

On my recent trip to Lush I picked up some of their Valentines collection, I love all the seasonal collections lush do, don’t you? The Valentines collection make perfect presents  too (get hinting) or just buy them yourself, go on you deserve it!

Here’s what I picked up from the collection, there are lots more in the collection to choose from too.

Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar

I LOVE this, I buy it every single year because…its a pretty unicorn horn that’s why, its beautiful and makes your bath smell pretty amazing too.

Lush says: Unicorns are probably real. But, even if they’re not (don’t worry they definitely are) you won’t mind! Relaxing lavender oil meets mood-brightening neroli in this lustre-filled bar. Neroli oil increases serotonin levels in the brain which makes us feel contented and cheery, so you can ponder the existence of magical creatures while building a fairytale landscape of feel-good, fragrant bubbles.

Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb

Nothing says Valentines day quite like roses does it? I’m not the biggest fan of rose but this actually smells quite nice.

Lush says:Love is blind, which is a shame because this bombshell with a floral triplet of yellow rose petals, rose absolute and rose oil is an enthralling spectacle. As it fizzes, the outer shell breaks away and magnificent petals burst out in a sweet haze of Sicilian lemon and floral geranium oils.

Lover Lamp Bath Bomb

Visually when this fizzes in the bath it’s absolutely beautiful, who doesn’t want to relax in a bath of cocoa butter surrounds by little floating hearts, this is quite possibly my favourite out of the whole collection because it smells amazing and it’s so pretty.

Lush says:However your V Day pans out, you can rely on this amorous organic cocoa butter embrace to melt your heart and soften your skin.
As vanilla absolute and Brazilian orange oil sweet nothings are whispered into your bathwater, cocoa butter hearts unfurl to envelop you in a romantic rendezvous – cleansing climax guaranteed.

Cupid Bath Bomb

This is perfect for those on a budget or anyone after a little extra gift as its only £2.95, it is seriously cute and I cant wait to try this one.

Lush says:Be still your beating heart with an opulent bathtime bouquet of calming rose and bergamot. This fantastically floral fizzer is full of uplifting bergamot, rose and violet leaf absolute, and its subtle sweetness is sure to melt your heart as it melts into your bathwater.

Over And Over Bath Bomb

This is another new one to me, not something I would usually pick up but the fact that it’s a bath bomb with what looks like a bath melt on top drew me in, it has a lovely fresh scent and I just know my skin is going to be super soft after using it.

Lush says:No it’s not all in your head. This enlivening cocoa butter coated lime and fennel oil bomb will perk you up and leave you thinking ‘bout it over and over again. Be mesmerised by its hypnotic rocking and rolling, as a vibrant citrus firework of pinks, oranges and golds unfurls into your bath.

Thanks for reading a I hope you have a wonderful valentines day

8 Tips to keep your house tidy with kids

Notice how I said tidy and not clean? I read somewhere that there is a very big difference to having a tidy home and a clean home, I’d definitely class mine as tidy rather than clean. I’m not saying I live in filth, just that my house isn’t sparkling and it probably never will be having 2 kids,2 dogs and 2 cats living in it!

I do however keep up with basic hygiene and like my house to look tidy in case we have any unexpected visitors and it just makes me a lot happier not having clutter lying around. Tidying is not easy when you have small children (or big ones that don’t like to leave their room)

how to keep your house tidy with kids

Here are my top tips on keeping your house tidy

  • Buy storage tubs for toys that can be hidden in cupboards/under tables etc. Ikea Kallax storage cubes or similar are amazing. I have them in both kids rooms and in my hallway for shoes. They hide a multitude of sins! Read about my living room toy storage in more detail here
  • Tidy up like a mad woman the second you have chance. As soon as Ava goes for a nap I quickly run round chucking all the toys back into the storage tubs. I know she’s only going to get them all out again when she wakes but for that brief time, the house looks calm and tidy.
  • Utilise any time you have help wisely. At night Andy takes Ava up to get ready for her bath so I use that time to tidy up downstairs and whilst she’s in the bath I tidy her room and put away her laundry.
  • As soon as Ava is asleep for the night, I run the hoover around downstairs whilst Andy does the washing up and cleans the kitchen. It’s all about teamwork! I know I’m lucky to have a husband that helps out but I’m sure everyone can stretch to washing up/wiping sides down.
  • Prepare for the day ahead the night before. We probably spend about 45 minutes before we sit down for the night getting things ready for the next day, We get packed lunches prepared, all washing up done, floors and surfaces cleaned and I sort out the laundry ready to go on in the morning. Trying to do that with a baby is near on impossible so I try to get as much prepared as I can. In the morning I know everywhere is clean and tidy ready for the small one to terrorise the place all over again!
  • Do things as you see them. Rubbish on the floor? pick it up, bin need emptying? do it now, had a shower/ been to the loo? give it a quick wipe down, you’re in there anyway. Doing little jobs as soon as you notice means they don’t turn in to massive jobs that will take up time you don’t have.
  • Get your kids to help out.  Ava is a bit too little at the minute but older kids are definitely capable of helping out with the tidying.
  • Don’t fill your house with loads of stuff! This is a new one to me this year as I am a lover of stuff. But lets face it if there’s less in your house that means less clutter and less to clean, its win win really (and not to mention better for your bank balance)

I’m not a tidy/clean freak by any means. Deep down I’m the girl that puts things in piles in one place and then ‘tidy’s’ them by putting them in piles somewhere else. And some days I really can not be bothered in the slightest BUT I know how everything being a mess really affects my mood and my attitude to life, ‘tidy house, tidy mind’ sounds a bit pretentious but it’s totally true (just ask my husband)

I’m always looking for ways to make my life easier. I’ve recently bought Marie Kondo’s book to have a read through. If you have any other tips let me know in the comments.
