On Tuesday we went to Blithbury Reindeer Lodge , Ava’s first trip to see santa! The lodge isn’t far from our house so back in early October I decided to look into going, they do toddler days which seemed perfect for us as it was in the week and a little quieter so it wouldn’t be too overwhelming for Ava. If you are planning on going next year I suggest you book as early as you can as nearly all the days were booked up when I booked. You can also go on the weekend and there’s a night-time adults only package too, I may book that for next year. On our tickets I added on a sleigh ride however I’m pretty sure you can book these on the day.
We arrived ready for our time slot to go into elf school and see santa, Elf school was fab, as was santa although Ava cried at him! She’s probably a bit young really but I LOVE Christmas and as this is her first Christmas I want to make some really special memories. In Elf school you get given some reindeer dust for Christmas Eve and you choose a gift from santa once you have been to see him, there’s plenty of choice, we went for a Christmas board book as the other presents were for a slightly older age range.
Next we had our photo taken with a reindeer in front of a green screen, these are available at £10 each or 3 for £20 we chose 2 different backgrounds from the green screen and our photo from meeting santa, perfect little memento of our day. We then made a marshmallow snowman lolly (included in the package) again suited to older children but I had fun making him and Ava definitely enjoyed eating him! Then we went outside to see the reindeer, oh there’s so many of them including a barn full of baby ones! They were so cute. You can buy a little pot of moss too feed them too.
After walking round feeding the reindeer we went for our sleigh ride, Ava loved this, definitely one to tick off the bucket list. We were feeling a bit peckish after this so we decided to eat in the little vintage tea room, oh my god this was so perfect, we ordered hot chocolates with cream, Andy had a turkey, cranberry and stuffing sandwich, I had leek and potato soup and Ava had some lovely warm toast, food was served quickly and was absolutely delicious. We also went back into to the barn for story time with Mrs Claus, story time happens hourly throughout the day.
Lastly, no trip out would be right without a mooch in the gift shop, this one was a pretty Christmas one, as part of the package you also pick up a certificate from here to certify your little one has completed Elf school. We bought a decoration for the tree and a cuddly reindeer for Ava, I also picked up a piece of antler on a key ring for my 12 year old son (bit gross if you ask me but he loved it, the dog however woofed at it!)
I would definitely recommend a trip and we intend to make it a yearly tradition. They do reindeer racing in the summer so I’m looking forward to going to that too.
Thanks for reading
