On Sunday we ticked off another activity from the Christmas bucket list. We visited Birches Valley in the heart of Cannock chase, it’s run by the forestry commission and is a lovely place to walk, play, have an ice cream in summer or a nice warm drink as it gets colder. The gruffalo and stick man trail is one of the main kiddie attractions along side the park, and for thrill seekers there’s Go Ape and Segway riding plus numerous biking trails. It’s close to our town so we spend a lot of time up there.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In winter it transforms into a little winter wonderland, there’s little log cabins serving drinks and food, mmm the doughnuts were amazing! Plenty of places for photo opportunities and an awful lot of real Christmas trees to choose from.

No festive trip would be complete without a visit to see the big man himself, it’s costs £10 and you get to see santa’s reindeer, have a good old chat with santa. You get a present from santa and a baby real Christmas tree, such a special memento of Ava’s first Christmas, my son had one when he was one and it’s still going strong!

Why not check out your local forestry commission and see what adventures you can have..

Blithbury Reindeer Lodge

On Tuesday we went to Blithbury Reindeer Lodge , Ava’s first trip to see santa! The lodge isn’t far from our house so back in early October I decided to look into going, they do toddler days which seemed perfect for us as it was in the week and a little quieter so it wouldn’t be too overwhelming for Ava. If you are planning on going next year I suggest you book as early as you can as nearly all the days were booked up when I booked. You can also go on the weekend and there’s a night-time adults only package too, I may book that for next year. On our tickets I added on a sleigh ride however I’m pretty sure you can book these on the day.

We arrived ready for our time slot to go into elf school and see santa, Elf school was fab, as was santa although Ava cried at him! She’s probably a bit young really but I LOVE Christmas and as this is her first Christmas I want to make some really special memories. In Elf school you get given some reindeer dust for Christmas Eve and you choose a gift from santa once you have been to see him, there’s plenty of choice, we went for a Christmas board book as the other presents were for a slightly older age range.

Next we had our photo taken with a reindeer in front of a green screen, these are available at £10 each or 3 for £20 we chose 2 different backgrounds from the green screen and our photo from meeting santa, perfect little memento of our day. We then made a marshmallow snowman lolly (included in the package) again suited to older children but I had fun making him and Ava definitely enjoyed eating him! Then we went outside to see the reindeer, oh there’s so many of them including a barn full of baby ones! They were so cute. You can buy a little pot of moss too feed them too.

After walking round feeding the reindeer we went for our sleigh ride, Ava loved this, definitely one to tick off the bucket list. We were feeling a bit peckish after this so we decided to eat in the little vintage tea room, oh my god this was so perfect, we ordered hot chocolates with cream, Andy had a turkey, cranberry and stuffing sandwich, I had leek and potato soup and Ava had some lovely warm toast, food was served quickly and was absolutely delicious. We also went back into to the barn for story time with Mrs Claus, story time happens hourly throughout the day.

Lastly, no trip out would be right without a mooch in the gift shop, this one was a pretty Christmas one, as part of the package you also pick up a certificate from here to certify your little one has completed Elf school. We bought a decoration for the tree and a cuddly reindeer for Ava, I also picked up a piece of antler on a key ring for my 12 year old son (bit gross if you ask me but he loved it, the dog however woofed at it!)

I would definitely recommend a trip and we intend to make it a yearly tradition. They do reindeer racing in the summer so I’m looking forward to going to that too.

Erm I’m pretty sure I only write her 8 month update a few days ago??? Where the heck has that month gone and where the hell has my baby gone?! Ava is at a bit of a funny age I think, she’s not really a baby anymore but she not quite a toddler either so there’s a lot of frustrated crying going on, she wants to be off walking but she’s about as steady on her feet as me on a night out i.e she ends up on her arse a lot or sometimes her face.

9 months old

  • she has mastered crawling on her hands and knees however she forgets that she can,so goes back to army crawling.
  • she weighs 18lb 4 now.
  • she can pull her self up on things but gets scared of getting back down, cue the cries for help
  • she can wave, clap, give kisses, and do the hand gestures for twinkle twinkle
  • she says dada, hiya and occasionally mama and likes to shout yeah a lot. She babbles 100mph and I have no idea what she’s saying!
  • she can walk pushing her walker but only if you hold the walker, otherwise she pushes it, forgets to move her feet and face plants it.
  • Ava loves dancing and will dance to just about anything including the washing machine.
  • she continues to eat food like she has a bottomless pit for a stomach, only thing we have found she doesn’t like so far is mushy peas
  • She loves reading her ‘that’s not my…’ books.
  • Hates having her nappy changed or lying down in general, she does not keep still!
  • She has 3 almost 4 teeth, 2 at the bottom and she’s very close to having 2 at the top.
  • she likes to point at everything

She is such a funny little girl and never fails to make us smile, can’t wait to see what the next month brings. IMG_7454.JPG

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen I received a couple of exciting parcels this morning, so I thought I’d show you what we got.

First up is a parcel from Rosie Bella designs, Ava got chosen as a brand rep for this lovely company and this was our first order. The parcel arrived very quickly considering these are all handmade items and it had gold glitter tape on ⭐️ straight away I was happy, simple things and all that.. inside however was the prettiest sparkliest beauties I have ever seen.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I ordered 2 clips, Ava has never worn clips but her hair is getting quite long at the front so I thought I’d get a couple to try. I also ordered some Christmas headbands and oh my! They did not disappoint, they are so sparkly and just beautiful especially the little Christmas hat! I bloody love Christmas and can’t wait to dress Ava up in her Christmas outfits. Lastly I ordered a birthday crown fit for a princess, Ava isn’t one till February but I like to be organised! I’m planning on booking a cake smash photo shoot and I’m sure her crown will look amazing with her birthday outfit. Here is the website if you want to browse/buy all the things http://rosiebella.co.uk/

My other parcel came from Zara, it’s the first time I have ordered from Zara baby but I’d heard good things so I thought I’d take the plunge. I went on the website originally to look for a winter coat for Ava and stumbled upon this one. At £14.99 I was sold and I’m so happy with it, it’s so cute on, it’s fleece lined and who doesn’t love a fur trim?! (Incase you don’t, you can remove the fur)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also picked up some other bits whilst I was on there, and they are beautiful too and all reasonably priced. The tops and penguin leggings are sooo soft and feel like really good quality material and the bird leggings are made from a thicker woven material so they are perfect for winter. I thought the dress would be a thin cotton but it’s actually quite a thick jersey material so that will be great for the colder months too. I’m really impressed with everything I ordered and delivery was super quick too, I will definitely be ordering again (shh! don’t tell the husband)
